Though Lan Kwai Fong’s hair-raising Halloween parties are probably not in the cards this year, there are still some fun activities around the city, and you can always throw your own spooky bash at home.
Aside from the usual Western eateries, Japanese fusion restaurants Tokyolima and TMK offer spooky Halloween menus based on your favorite classic horror flicks.
Dinner at Tokyolima in Central offers an array of devilishly delicious dishes and drinks with Amityville Dollhouse vibes. The dinner tasting menu (HK$490) on October 31 will include a welcome glass of Perrier-Jouet. Diners can also expect the Nikkei eatery’s signature dishes, such as the Buri tiradito and chicken yakitori.
Just next door in Sheung Wan, TMK has themed its menu for the scary night in The Lost Boys. The meal starts off with complimentary cocktail syringe shooters, followed by a special Dinner Mohawk menu (HK$348) featuring a selection of the temakeria’s all time favorites, such as the TMK cabbage salad and the tuna hotdog handroll.
Given all the extra binge-watching time we’ve been given this year, it is no surprise many events are influenced by entertainment hits, with the next being The Dispensary’s Vault Lockdown Party on October 29.
Inspired by Money Heist on Netflix, guests will be greeted by a team of Dali-masked misfits dressed in the show’s signature red jumpsuits. Those who show up in haunting outfits will get free entry.
The cocktail of the evening – to be won through a Money Heist trivia quiz – will be Dali (price not available), a blood red concoction crafted with vodka, homemade lemongrass cordial, honey, lime and pineapple juice topped with a haunting masked figure.
Harbor cruise Aqua Luna will also be transforming its signature night cruise (from HK$400) into a ship of terrors with dastardly ghouls and pirates on Halloween. As well as free-flow drinks, including prosecco, house wine, beer, soft drinks and juices, guests will receive an exclusive Evil Eye cocktail. The fruity, refreshing drink in spooky green is made with vodka, lychee, pineapple juice, orange juice and blueberries.
Honi Honi Tiki Cocktail Lounge, which has been celebrating its eighth anniversary this month, will end the festivities with a Halloween bang.
Other than its anniversary promotion of its seven best-selling drinks (HK$88 each), which runs until November 1, a free-flow menu with glasses of bubbles, bloody mojito, pumpkin organic vodka punch and mouth-watering sweet treats will be available on Halloween. Tickets are HK$660 at the door but HK$550 for early birds on the Pelago website.
Not in the mood for too wicked and wild? Drop by Twist & Buckle at Tsim Sha Tsui and check out its time-limited Spooky Churro (HK$65). Available between October 26 and November 1, the Instagram-worthy churro, tucked in Hokkaido milk soft serve, is garnished with Oreo crumbles to resemble dirt and a marshmallow spider web – complete with blood-red strawberry and electric blue chocolate spiders.
Chocolate fans can also check out Lucullus’s Halloween collection. The gift box (HK$128) features five pieces of handcrafted chocolate, including the brand’s signature 73 percent dark truffle chocolate and Blanc, a caramelized hazelnut cluster topped with silky white chocolate.
Also available are three Halloween-themed chocolates (HK$24): Pum Pum, made with orange peel milk chocolate, Wizard, an opulent vanilla truffle with an irresistibly smooth center and the ghost-like Spooky.
Prefer staying at home? Marks & Spencer has the Halloween essentials covered for both you and your little ones. The new range includes party treats such as the gruesome Chocolate Severed Fingers (HK$59) and the cheesy Vampire Fangs (HK$35).
A party must-have is the treat sharing boxes, from the tubs of Fruity Gruesome Sweets (HK$89) with jelly brains, bones and hearts, to the new box of 40 Monstrous Milk Chocolate Treats (HK$99).
For families also looking to get both creative and festive, a range of pumpkins – from miniature Munchkin Pumpkins to Spooky Large Pumpkins (price not available) – are also available.
