Like artists of yore, Max Mara is drawn by the romance of the ocean. This season’s collection imagines a woman captaining her own boat. Northward bound, from Morocco to Murmansk, she imagines majestic wintry seascapes.
The collection maintains the fashion house’s signature minimalist silhouettes but jazzes it up with nautical details. It is awash in navy blue, combined with camel, gray and white.
Coats, the obvious focus of a winter wardrobe, reference naval uniforms – so expect to see officer-class greatcoats, capes, cabans and duffels with toggles and tassels.
To stop the look from being starkly masculine, details such as ruffles and gathers as well as asymmetrical hemlines lend a feminine air.
Highlighted looks include the pinstriped wool and cashmere blazer with ruffle sleeves paired with high-waisted pants, a tone-to-tone look of the classic 101801 Icon coat paired with a camel shirt and high-waisted pants, and a water-resistant taffeta jacket on top of an asymmetrical camel skirt with a ruffled hemline.
Tying it all together is a rope belt, which the house terms a nautical belt.
