Red-letter day

Every year around this time, an inevitable topic in the fashion world is fashion houses’ ingenious collections for the Lunar New Year.

To usher in the Year of the Ox, the hardworking and honest animal becomes a key element, while traditional Chinese craft details and adorable modern prints also take centerstage.

Some of the new goodies have trendy seasonal hues, allowing fashionistas to go all out with their daily outfits even after the festival.

The Doraemon X Gucci Epilogue collection celebrates the 50th anniversary of the cartoon cat robot by giving it an ox makeover with horns and a tan hide.

Filling up a complete wardrobe with sweatshirts, jackets, leather goods, sneakers, watches and even phone cases, the crimson and brown-hued collection features prints with both the original and restyled Doraemon and the brand’s iconic GG monogram.

Chloe’s best-selling mini Daria handbag and Drew crossbody bag dress up in denim and red leather to echo the animal of the year, while a new AirPods case and bottle bag are available for those who want to stay extra organized.

Fendi’s Lunar New Year capsule collection also goes for classic red hues, though chrysanthemum and plum flower patterns transform its accessories, such as earrings and hair clips, into showstoppers.

Among heaps of monograms and prints, Loro Piana’s Ox Lunar New Year collection chooses to go minimalist with a red stripe design and instead emphasizes the brand’s high-quality cashmere, seen in its scarf, bomber, crewneck and trousers.
